In addition to recording from the WeVideo homepage or with the WeVideo Chrome extension, you can record or upload media directly in the project editor. Media recorded in the project will be automatically added to the project bin and timeline, ready for editing. They will also be stored in the Uploads library in your WeVideo account to use in other projects.

Before you start
- Create a project in WeVideo Multimedia Creation.
Record video within the project editor
In the project editor, click the Add Media button to expand the drop-down menu and select one of the options from the list. There are four options to add media to a project:
- Upload: Upload files from your device to the project. Please review the list of file formats WeVideo supports.
- Record: Record a video with your webcam, screen, or both.
- Audio: Record audio with the built-in or external microphone. Learn more about recording voice-over in WeVideo.
-
Text to speech: Generate audio files with the AI text-to-speech tool from the text you provide. Learn more about the text-to-speech generator in WeVideo.
Select the Record option from the expanded Add Media menu.
Grant microphone and camera access if necessary, then select what to record:
- Dual: Record videos from the webcam and screen simultaneously. After recording, these videos are saved as two videos.
- Screen: Record a video from the selected tab, window, or screen.
- Webcam: Record yourself using the webcam from your device.
If screen recording, select the tab, window, or screen you want to record, then click Share. To record audio from the tab, toggle on the Share tab audio option. WeVideo will start recording after a 3-second countdown.
After the recording is complete, click Stop sharing on the browser or navigate back to the WeVideo tab and click Stop recording.
After stopping the recording, you can choose to upload or generate captions and audio descriptions for the recording. This can also be done either during or after exporting the project. Learn more about adding captions and audio descriptions in WeVideo.
Click Save to save the recording.
The recorded video will appear in the project bin and be automatically added to the timeline. You can start editing the recording right away while it is uploading, but you will have to wait until the upload is complete to export the project. Repeat the steps in this section to add more recordings to your project.
Access the recorded video afterward
The recorded videos will also be added to your Uploads library so you can use them in other projects. You can find them from the following two places.
In the project editor, switch to the Uploads tab and locate the recorded video from it. Drag the video to the timeline to add it to the project.
In the Multimedia Creation space, navigate to the Uploads page to locate the recordings. Click the triple-dot action button to expand the actions menu.
You can open and preview the recording, download it, rename it, move it to a folder, add it to a playlist, delete it, or change the ownership to other users in the license.
