What are projects?

Video, recording, GIF, podcast, and storyboard are all examples of types of WeVideo projects. Whatever your use case, simply click Create on the Home dashboard, or click the drop-down menu next to it to select the type of project you want to start.

In this article:

Supported types of video projects

  • Video: Projects with video, audio, and text.
  • Recording: Projects that use the webcam recorder, screen, recorder or both. Recorded videos live in the Uploads page.
  • GIF: Projects of exported image files with looping animations. 
  • Podcast: Projects launched with the audio recorder.
  • Storyboard: Projects made with WeVideo’s simplified editor with essential editing features.

Create a video project

There are several ways to begin a new video project.

Click Create or select the drop-down arrow to select your type of video project. Users can always adjust the project type during export.

Choose an option from the Quick Actions menu on the Multimedia Creation homepage.

The Project tab on the left sidebar menu is highlighted as the first step, and the Create Project button on the projects page is marked as the second step.

Switch to the Projects page, then click Create project to launch the editor.

Invite collaborators to a project

The invite collaborators button at the top of the editor is highlighted.

Click the Invite Collaborators button inside the editor.

Enter name, email, or group title, or share the link with collaborators to access the project.

Adjust project settings

Click the Menu icon in the project editor to expand the project's action menu.

Use the menu icon to adjust project settings.

  • New project: Start a new project.
  • Save: Save current progress.
  • Make a copy: Create a duplicate version of this project.
  • Convert to template: Convert the project into a template. See this support article for more on templates.
  • Version history: Show edit history of this project and click on any version to restore it.
  • Theme: Switch between light and dark mode.
  • Preferences: Enable or disable the snap clips feature.
  • Help: Open the WeVideo Help Center.
  • Edit in full screen: Enter full screen mode. Click this same option or use the ESC key to exit full screen mode.

Combine projects

Multiple projects are selected on the projects page, and then the Combine button at the top of the page is clicked.

Combine multiple existing projects in the Projects folder. Select which projects to combine by clicking the check box on the top left corner and hit Combine.

A list of select projects shows in the panel, and the combine button is highlighted for the user to confirm combining these projects.

Drag and drop the projects into the desired order, then hit Combine.

The WeVideo editor shows the combined projects in one new project.

Combined projects are now a new project on WeVideo’s timeline. Every select project remains an independent project on the Projects page. See more on combining projects below:

Project limitations

  • GIF projects are limited to 45 seconds and contain only video tracks.
  • Podcast recordings cannot exceed 10 minutes. To record for more than 10 minutes, divide the content into sections.
