You can create a new GIF by selecting Create > GIF in the Multimedia Creation space or by exporting an existing project as a GIF. Learn more about GIFs and both ways to create them below.
Before you start
- A GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) is a short, looping animation format file.
- In WeVideo, GIFs are limited to 45 seconds or less and do not include audio. (The project itself may include audio tracks on the Timeline, but this audio will not be captured in the final export.)
Create a new project for GIFs
From the Multimedia Creation space, click the arrow of the Create button and then choose GIF.
Add media to the timeline to create your GIF. By default, GIF projects include three muted video tracks; you can add more tracks if needed. (Because exported GIFs do not have audio, unmuting the tracks will not change anything in your final export.)
When you’re done editing, click the Export button.
Choose your preferred export settings and then click Export. These settings include title, resolution, and frame rate, along with optional export destinations.
Once your GIF is done processing, you can download the file, share it, or add it to a playlist. Alternatively, come back any time and find your GIF on the Exports page.
Export existing projects to GIFs
Navigate to the Projects page, find the project in question, and then click Edit.
Use the multimedia editor to tweak the project as needed, and when you’re done, click the Export button in the upper right.
Choose GIF as the project type in the Export options panel. Adjust any other export settings as desired, then click Export.
Note: If the GIF project type is grayed out, then you’ll need to trim any video tracks to be less than 45 seconds long.
Once your GIF is done processing, download it, share it, or add it to a playlist. You can also come back later and find your GIF project on the Exports page.
