Learn how teachers can build interactive videos in WeVideo using external video hosts, including steps and classroom requirements.

Build interactive videos with external video hosts by opening the interactive video editor and accessing the external video host menu in WeVideo. Edit imported videos, add interactions, and assign.

Launch the interactive video editor

Multimedia Creation

Access external video hosts in WeVideo

WeVideo currently supports the following external video hosts:

The Zoom integration can be enabled from the user's side by connecting their Zoom and WeVideo accounts. The other external video hosts need to be enabled by WeVideo before users can use them.

Panopto

Choosing Panopto as an external video source in WeVideo.

Enter the User ID and password in the pop-up window to log in.

Select videos from the library and click Select Video to import to the interactive video editor.

Upload videos to Panopto directly by selecting the Upload tab and dragging and dropping the file to the Upload section.

Switch to the Record tab to record videos with Panopto from the interactive video editor. Choose to record from the browser or with the Panopto app.

Kaltura

Verify the Kaltura ID from the interactive video editor. Update by clicking the Pen icon, enter a new ID, and click the green check mark to submit. Once approved, the updated Kaltura account is linked to WeVideo and ready to import videos.

Mediasite

Verify the Mediasite ID in the interactive video editor. Update by selecting the Pen icon, enter a new ID, and click the green check mark to submit. Once approved, the updated Mediasite account is linked to WeVideo and can import videos.

YuJa

Canvas Studio

Click the folder to expand it and view the videos inside or search keywords to find them.

Switch to the Videos tab to view which videos are accessible in Canvas Studio.

Wistia

Select the Wistia option from the video sources list.

Zoom

Users need to connect their Zoom account with their WeVideo account first for the Zoom option to appear in the Video Sources list in the interactive video editor.

After connecting your Zoom and WeVideo accounts, select the Zoom option from the list to view your Zoom cloud recording. Select the recording, then click Done to import it into the interactive video.

Edit imported videos

Captions in the external video hosts are displayed in the interactive video when learners watch them. Edit captions in the video host platform for changes to reflect in WeVideo automatically.

Click the Pen icon of the imported video segment and select Edit Video Segment, then select the Current Video option.

Switch to the Caption tab and click Upload to upload the caption file to the video segment. WeVideo supports VTT or SRT format. Click Done to save.

Select Trim & Crop to further edit your content's appearance.

Add interactions to the videos

After videos are added to the interactive video editor, users can switch to the Interactions tab to add interactionsapply templates, or generate interactions with AI in WeVideo.

Select review to edit the title, add learning objectives, or upload a new thumbnail.

Expand the Tags section to add tags, target audience, and subjects for better organization, and expand the Playback options to adjust playback settings. Users can also expand the Privacy section to adjust privacy settings. This doesn’t affect whether learners can access the video, but it does affect whether other instructors can find it in the Premade Content library. Click Save Changes to save the edits.

Assign interactive videos to learners

WeVideo's interactive video tools record learners’ start and completion times so instructors can monitor progress. Instructors can add interactions at any point. Boclips videos live in the Interactive Videos folder.

Assigning an interactive video to learners in WeVideo.

Go to Interactive Videos and select the three dots under Actions to open up the video menu. Click Assign. Alternatively, check the video to assign and click Assign from the top toolbar.

Adjust title, tags, payback options, and privacy settings as needed. Adjust Assign Preferences and select an option. Choose start and end dates, if desired. Assignments are not available to learners until the start date and are locked after the end date. Select classes and click Assign. 

Assignments plan and permission requirements

Assigned video access depends on the following user account permissions.

  • Assign to learners: For users with student or teacher accounts.
  • Assign to professional learning: This option is deprecated. For professional learning, please select the "Assign for learners" option and enroll the participants in the class as learners. 
  • Assign to people outside the organization: Anyone can receive this assignment with a link. Users must enter their first and last names before starting the video. This is available for users with a district plan.
  • Assign to anonymous participants: Anyone can access with a link. No user information is required. This is available for users with a district plan.

Note: Users cannot log in through the embedded player for security reasons. The embed code option is only available for assignments assigned through the Assign to people outside the organization or Assign to anonymous participants options.
