How do I assign Interactivity content to Canvas?

Note: 

  • The Interactivity Canvas integration is only available for some users. If you do not see the integration tool from the external tool list, please contact your LMS admins.
  • If interactive videos or playlists are assigned directly to Interactivity Classes and then added to the LMS course via links or embed codes, they will not be connected to the LMS course. This means grades will not be sent to the LMS gradebook, and learners will need to log in to their WeVideo accounts manually rather than accessing the interactive content directly within the LMS.  To ensure learners can access the interactive assignment directly from the LMS course and that grades can be synced to the LMS gradebook, please follow the steps in this article to assign the interactive content to the LMS course using the WeVideo Interactivity Integration.

In this article:

WeVideo Interactivity provides the integration tool through the LTI 1.3 standard, allowing instructors to assign interactive content to their Canvas assignments. Learners can access and complete the interactive content directly from Canvas, and their grades will be synced to Canvas once they complete the assignment. Please see the instructions below.

Before you start

  • The Interactivity Canvas integration is only available to some users. If the integration tool is not visible from the external tool list, contact your LMS admins.
  • If interactive videos or playlists are assigned directly to Interactivity Classes and then added to the LMS course via links or embed codes, they are not connected to the LMS course. Grades are not sent to the LMS gradebook, and learners need to log in to their WeVideo accounts manually rather than accessing the interactive content directly within the LMS.

Create and edit interactive videos from the Interactivity Canvas integration

Navigate to a class in Canvas and click + Assignment from the Assignments page in Canvas to create a new assignment.

Enter the assignment information, change the submission type to External Tool, and click Find.

Select the WeVideo LTI integration tool. The tool name is set by LMS admins, so it may look different from the screenshot below.

Click the Set Link button on the manage link window.

Click the Create New Interactive Video button to launch the interactive video editor. In the interactive video editor, you can import videos from supported video hosts and add interactions to them to create an interactive video. Learn more about creating interactive videos in WeVideo Interactivity.

When creating the interactive video, you can click the Open in New Tab button on the sidebar to open the interactive video editor in a new tab for a better user experience.

To edit the existing interactive video, click its thumbnail or the triple-dot action button and select the Edit option. If you want to open the interactive video editor in a new tab for a better experience, click the Open in New Tab icon to open the interactive video editor in a new tab and start editing.

Assign Interactivity content to Canvas

Navigate to a class in Canvas and click + Assignment from the Assignments page in Canvas to create a new assignment.

Click the Set Link button on the manage link window.

Click the Canvas icon next to the desired interactive video or playlist, then click Link to assign it. If there is no interactive video in the account, click the Create New Interactive Video button to start making your first interactive video.

Select the learner experience to be asynchronous self-paced or synchronous live broadcast.

(Optional) Set the due date for the interactive video. Learners can not access the assignment after the due date. If no date is entered here, there will be no due date for this assignment.

Click Set Link to complete the process.

Adjust the assignment grading in Canvas, then Save and publish.

Once content is linked, the following window shows these options:

  • Preview: Preview linked content.
  • Monitor: Open the monitor page to review and adjust learners’ grades.

Update the due date for the assignment

Navigate to the assignment in the LMS and click the Monitor button to launch the WeVideo in a new tab.

Click the Interactive Videos tab at the top to view the class's interactive videos.

Click the thumbnail of the interactive video and select the Edit Assignment option.

Update the assignment's due date, then click Update.

Click the Monitor button on the manage link page to launch the monitor page and find learners’ names, responses to each question, and grades.

Update learners’ grades or manually assign points to graded questions by clicking the response and entering the points.

Click Sync Grades to sync the most up-to-date grades to the Canvas gradebook. For grades to sync, the assignment points in Canvas must be greater than 0.

Assign interactive content as a non-graded item to Canvas

In addition to assigning interactive content as a graded Canvas assignment, instructors can assign it to learners through the Rich Content Editor in Canvas as a non-graded item. This allows instructors to add interactive videos and playlists to pages, announcements, and other places in Canvas using the Rich Content Editor. 

Please note that interactive content assigned through this workflow will not create a grade item in Canvas, and learners’ grades will not sync to Canvas. Instructors can still view learners’ progress and grades on the monitor page in WeVideo.

To assign the interactive content to Canvas as a non-graded item using the Rich Content Editor, create a new page, announcement, or other post in the Canvas course, then click the Apps icon in the Rich Content Editor.

Click the WeVideo Interactivity integration from the list to launch it.

You will see a warning message indicating that content assigned through this workflow will not support grade sync. Click Set Link to launch into WeVideo Interactivity.

Find the interactive video or playlist you want to link and click the Canvas icon next to its title. You can also click the Create New Interactive Video button to launch the interactive video editor to create a new interactive video.

Adjust the title and learner experience as needed, then scroll down to adjust the Insert As option. You can choose to add the interactive content as a hyperlink for learners to open in a new tab, or as an embedded item that learners can interact with directly in Canvas.

 

Click the set link button to confirm linking the content to Canvas

After adjusting the settings, click the Set Link button to complete linking the interactive content.

The linked content is displayed as a hyperlink.

The linked content will be displayed in the page's content section. You can continue editing the page and publish it when ready.
