Why can’t I add media from Google Photos

Although WeVideo is integrated with Google Drive, Google Drive is a separate application from Google Photos, and WeVideo cannot access any media within Google Photos. This is because Google Photos operates on its own storage system and API, which restricts third-party applications like WeVideo from connecting to it directly.

At this time, there is no means of adding media directly to WeVideo from Google Photos; instead, please use the suggested workarounds below.

Workarounds for adding media from Google Photos

Because WeVideo does not integrate directly with Google Photos, you’ll need to download the photos from Google Photos before transferring them to WeVideo. Two simple options are to add the media to Google Drive or upload it directly to WeVideo.

Add the media to Google Drive first

  1. Go to your Google Photos account and download the media files you’d like to eventually upload to WeVideo.
  2. Upload them to the Google Drive account connected to WeVideo. (Make sure you're signed into the same Google account that is linked to your WeVideo account.)
  3. Add the media files to WeVideo by importing them directly from Google Drive.

Directly upload the media to WeVideo

  1. Go to your Google Photos account and download the media files you’d like to upload to WeVideo.
  2. Upload the media files directly from your device by clicking Add media and dragging and dropping the files into WeVideo.
