Learn how students can edit the same project at once in WeVideo, including steps and classroom requirements.
WeVideo supports real-time collaboration on projects. Students added to the project can add, edit, or remove clips simultaneously and see other students' edits and notes in real time.
Before you start
- Ensure students have joined the license.
- Create a project for students to collaborate on, or create a class and add students to it for a team project.
How to add users to the project as collaborators?
Add users to the project
Click the Invite Collaborators button at the top of the interactive video editor.
Enter the email address or the user name to search for the collaborator, then click their account in the list to select them. After selecting all the collaborators, click Invite to add the selected users to the project.
Invite users to the project through the invite link
Click the Invite Collaborators button at the top of the editor. Click the Copy Link option to copy the invite link and share it with users who should join this project.
Assign the team project to students
Navigate to the class in WeVideo and click the Create Assignment button to create a Multimedia Creation or Quick Recording assignment.
Provide the information for the assignment and click Next to proceed.
Set the Participation type to Team, and specify how many teams should be created for the assignment; students will be able to select which team to join when they launch the assignment.
If you would like to assign students to the team manually, click the Assign Teams option to open the panel and add students to each team.
Enter the assignment's due date, select whether to enable ClassFeed for the assignment, and click Assign to assign it to the class.
What will users see when editing projects with others at the same time?
When multiple users access the project at the same time, their account icons are listed at the top of the window for quick reference. On the Timeline, users’ icons will indicate which clips each user is currently editing. If comments are added to the timeline, other users can view and reply to them by clicking the gray marking point on the timeline to expand and reply to the comment.
When any collaborator clicks Export to export the project or Turn in to submit the assignment, it will also be exported for all collaborators and appear in the Exports library for all collaborators.
How to remove collaborators from the project?
Click the Invite Collaborators button at the top of the interactive video editor. Click the triple-dot action button next to the collaborator and select Remove. The removed collaborators will no longer have access to the project.
Who can edit the project's collaborators?
Only the project owner can add or remove collaborators. Other collaborators can view the list of collaborators but can not edit it. In the team assignment, students cannot edit or adjust their team members while taking the assignment.
Plans and permissions requirements for allowing multiple students to work on the same project
The real-time collaboration feature is available for users in the Instructor, Organization, Teams, or Enterprise license type. For more on pricing and plan options, see: WeVideo Plans & Pricing.
For Admin Plus users, by default, only the users in the same building can be added to the project as collaborators. If you would like users from different buildings to work on the same project, please ask the license owner to adjust the global settings in the Admin Plus panel to enable cross-building collaboration.
