How do teachers assign video projects?

Learn how teachers or instructors can assign video projects and interactive video assignments with WeVideo, including steps and classroom requirements.

Availability & requirements

Only Education licenses (Instructor and Organizational) have access to WeVideo's classroom features. Purchase a 30-seat plan online, or contact our team to discuss your needs. in WeVideo and can assign video projects to learners.

To assign content to learners, you must have teacher or administrator permissions enabled.

Create classes

Creating classes in WeVideo makes assigning video content and projects as easy as can be. See: How do I create new classes in the Multimedia Creation space? 

Once your classes are created and learners enrolled, you're ready to assign video projects.

Assign video projects to learners

WeVideo allows you to assign multimedia creation projects or interactive video assignments (if your account includes Interactivity).

Click the drop-down menu next to the Create button at the top of the WeVideo window, select Assignment, and select the Multimedia Creation or Quick Recording option.

Provide the title and description of the assignment. Instructors can also record a video for learners to review before they start working on the project, if desired. Click Record to launch the recorder.

Next, select the project type from one of the four options:

  • Video: Regular video project with the standard interactive video editor
  • GIF: A project with no audio and a length limited to 45 seconds. The export of this project will be a short looping image.
  • Podcast: A project with audio tracks only. The export will be an audio file.
  • Storyboard: A video project with the simplified Storyboard editor.

(Optional) Click Import Cover Photo to add a cover photo for the assignment.

(Optional) Instructors can add starting blocks to the assignment for learners. When they launch the assignment, they will start with the media clips in the provided starting blocks. Click the +Add Media and Starting Blocks button and select to create new starting blocks or use an existing project as starting blocks.

(Optional) Instructors can also add a sample video to the project for learners to review before starting. Click the +Add Sample Video option, then select to add the video from Uploads & Exports in WeVideo or from your device.

Click Next at the top right to proceed to the next step.

Select desired classes from the drop-down menu, then select if this assignment should be an individual project or a team project.

Enter the due date and select if you want to allow learners to view each other’s submissions through ClassFeed. If ClassFeed and commenting are enabled, learners can review other learners’ submissions, leave comments on them, and reply to others’ comments. 

Click Assign to complete the process and assign the project to learners in the selected classes.

Interactive video assignments

Navigate to the Interactive Videos page by clicking the Interactive Videos option from the sidebar menu.

Click the triple-dot action button of the interactive video and select Assign.

Select Assign Preference, then enter the start and due dates.

Select the classes where this interactive video should be assigned from the list and click Assign at the top right of the window.
