Yes, when building interactive videos in WeVideo Interactivity, instructors can select the Upload & Record option as the video host to upload videos from their device or record videos in the interactive video editor. Please note that the uploaded and recorded videos will consume the storage space in the license.

Record videos in Interactivity

Click the Create New Interactive Video button on the Interactive Videos page in Interactivity.

Select the Upload & Record option as the video source.

Click the Upload & Record button to launch the recorder.

Select to upload a video from your device, record a screencast, or record with the webcam.

After selecting the recording option, click the Start Recording button.

After completing the recording, click Stop to stop the recording. We recommend continuing to record for 3 to 4 seconds at the end to prevent the audio and content from being cut off.

Preview the recording, then click the blue check mark to start uploading it. If you want to record again, click the red cross to delete the recording and start over.

After the recording is uploaded, you are now ready to add interactions to it.

Edit the uploaded videos

Click the pen icon in the top right corner of the imported video and select Edit Video Segment.

Select the Current Video option to edit the video. Users can also select other options to replace this video segment.

View and upload captions

Click the Captions tab at the top to upload a caption file to the video if available. With the uploaded captions, users can use WeVideo’s AI tool to generate interactions for the video. Please see this article for more information about AI-generated interactions in WeVideo Interactivity.

Trim and crop videos

Click the Trim & Crop tab and use the green and red flags on the timeline to trim the video. The trims will only affect the imported video in Interactivity and will not affect the original video on the host sites.

To add internal crops, move the white playhead to the time stamp for the crop, click Advanced to expand the advanced settings, and click Add Internal Crop.

Adjust the crop start and end times, or use the green and red flags to adjust the crop. The videos between these times will not be displayed to learners. The crops will only affect the imported video in Interactivity and will not affect the original video on the host sites.

Users can repeat the steps above to add more crops to the video if needed.

Add interactions to the interactive video

There are three options for instructors to add interactions to the interactive video.

Apply pre-formatted templates

Select Open Template Gallery to expand the template gallery.

Find a suitable template for the interactive video, then click Apply to add it.

Click Apply again to confirm adding this template to the interactive video.

The template has been added, and instructors can click on each interaction to edit the content.

Create interactions from scratch

Drag the playhead to the timestamp where the interaction should be placed, then click the + Create New Interaction button.

Select the interaction type to add from the list. Please see the description for each interaction below.

  • Multiple Choice: Learners need to choose one correct answer from a list of answer options. This interaction can only have one correct answer and will be auto-graded.
  • Check All: Learners need to choose all the correct answers from a list of answer options. This interaction will be auto-graded.
  • Free Response: Learners answer the question by submitting their responses in text, image, or audio format. This interaction requires instructors to grade it manually. Please see the monitor section below for more information about the grading.
  • Fill-in-the-blank: Present learners with a phrase missing one or more words. Questions can have multiple blanks and multiple correct answers. Please press Enter/Return to separate each correct answer. Responses are not case-sensitive but spelling-sensitive. Learners can receive partial credit for their answers, and this interaction will be auto-graded.
  • Poll: Learners select one or more options from a list of answer options. There is no right or wrong answer to this interaction, and the interaction is non-graded by default. If points are added to this interaction, all learners who answer it will receive full credit for this interaction.
  • Discussion: Learners can post comments and reply to their peers’ posts in real time. Instructors can monitor and delete the post if needed. This interaction is non-graded by default. If points are added, all learners who contribute to the discussion will receive full credit for this interaction.
  • Pause: Pause the video playback and display the information entered by the instructor.
  • Web Embed: Embed a website in the video player that allows learners to explore the website without leaving the video.
  • PDF file: Upload the PDF file from the device to the interactive video as an interaction. Learners can use the built-in tool to add comments, highlight text, and draw on the PDF file. These annotations will also be exportable for learners when they download the PDF file from the interactive video.
  • My interactions: The interactions created by the user before can be found and reused from here.

After selecting the interaction type to add, enter the information for the interaction and click Save to create the interaction.

(Optional) Update the time code in the Interaction Time section to adjust the timing of the interaction if needed.

(Optional) Instructors can also make the interaction durational, which will be displayed to learners within the set start and end times. To do so, click the three-dot button in the Interaction Time section and select Add End Time.

(Optional) By default, the interaction will be placed in the left sidebar. To adjust its placement, click the placement on the top right and select a new placement for the interaction. Instructors can further fine-tune the placement by expanding the Advanced settings.

Generate interactions with the AI tool

If you have the video caption file, please upload the captions to WeVideo Interactivity to enable AI-generated interactions. Please see this article for more information about AI-generated interactions in Interactivity.

Enhance interactions with AI

After creating the questions, instructors can enhance and improve them with the AI tool. Click the Enhance with AI button and select one of the options from the drop-down menu. Please note that the AI enhancement tool is currently available only for question types compatible with the AI interaction generator: multiple choice, check all that apply, fill-in-the-blank, and free-response questions.

  • Modify with a prompt: Enter the prompt to guide the AI in regenerating the question.
  • Update Complexity: Regenerate the question at the selected complexity level.
  • Replace with a similar question: Regenerate the question with the same question type and complexity settings.
  • Translate: Select a language from the list to translate the question and answer options into the selected language.

Adjust interactive video settings and preview the interactive video

After adding the interactions, switch to the Review tab to view the review page. Instructors can edit the title, add learning objectives, or upload a new thumbnail on the review page.

Expand the Tags section to add tags, target audience, and subjects for this interactive video to help organize the interactive videos in the account. Then click Save Changes to complete the edit.

Expand Playback Options to adjust playback settings as needed. Click Save Changes to complete editing.

Expand the Privacy section and adjust the privacy settings for the interactive video. This setting only affects whether other instructors can find it in the Premade Interactive Video Library; it does not affect whether your learner can access the interactive video.

Click Preview to preview the interactive video, or click Save and Exit to save and close the interactive video editor.

Assign interactive videos to learners

Interactive videos can be assigned to learners through WeVideo Classes or the LMS integration, if available in the license. For more information about assigning interactive videos to learners, please see these articles.
