How do I assign Interactivity content to D2L?

Note: 

  • The Interactivity D2L/Brightspace integration is only available for some users. If you do not see the integration tool from the external tool list, please contact your LMS admins.
  • If interactive videos or playlists are assigned directly to Interactivity Classes and then added to the LMS course via links or embed codes, they will not be connected to the LMS course. This means grades will not be sent to the LMS gradebook, and learners will need to log in to their WeVideo accounts manually rather than accessing the interactive content directly within the LMS.  To ensure learners can access the interactive assignment directly from the LMS course and that grades can be synced to the LMS gradebook, please follow the steps in this article to assign the interactive content to the LMS course using the WeVideo Interactivity Integration.

In this article:

Instructors can assign interactive content to their learners through the D2L integration, and learners can complete the assignment directly in D2L with their grades synced to the gradebook. Please see the sections below for more information on assigning interactive content to learners through D2L.

Assign content to learners through D2L

There are three options to assign interactive videos and playlists to learners through D2L:

Option 1: Add existing

Navigate to the D2L course you want to assign the content to and select Content.

Click Add Existing and find the WeVideo Interactivity integration from the list. The name of the tool is set by your LMS administrators, so please contact them if you need help determining which tool to use.

Click Set Link on the Manage Link page to launch into Interactivity.

Click the D2L icon next to the interactive video you want to assign and select Set Link. If you do not have interactive videos in your account yet, please follow the steps in this article to create interactive videos first.

If you want to assign playlists to D2L, click the Playlists tab on the sidebar to switch to the playlists page, and click the D2L icon next to the playlist you want to assign.

Select the learner experience to be asynchronous self-paced or synchronous live broadcast.

(Optional) Set the due date for the interactive video. Learners can not access the assignment after the due date. If no date is entered here, there will be no due date for this assignment.

Click Set Link to complete the process.

The content is now linked to this course.

By default, the embedded interactive videos will be displayed in D2L with an embedded player. If you would like to change how the interactive videos display, please edit the assignment and set the display option in the Display & Completion section.

Important note: The grade item will be created and displayed in the gradebook once a learner launches the assignment. If the instructor wants to create the grade item manually before learners access the assignment, please follow the instructions below. 

Navigate to the linked interactive video in D2L/Brightspace and select Edit to edit the activity.

Click the Add and Manage Grade Items button to add a new grade item to the activity.

Click + Grade Item.

Enter the desired points for the activity and click OK.

Click Save and Close to save the changes to the activity.

Please note that the UI in D2L may differ from the screenshots above due to LMS settings. If the UI is different, please contact your school admins for instructions on adding grade items to assignments.

Option 2: Insert stuff

Navigate to the D2L course you want to assign the content to and select Content.

Select Create New and create a new assignment or page.

Enter the title for the assignment or page, and click the Insert Stuff button on the rich text editor.

Select the WeVideo Interactivity integration from the list. The name of the tool is set by your LMS administrators, so please contact them if you need help determining which tool to use. Click Set Link on the Manage Link page to launch into Interactivity.

If you want to assign playlists to D2L, click the Playlists tab on the sidebar to switch to the playlists page, and click the D2L icon next to the playlist you want to assign.

The content is now linked to this course as a hyperlink. Learners can click on it to launch the player to take the interactive video or playlist.

You can choose whether to open the link in a new tab. Click the hyperlink, then select the Edit icon to edit the link.

Important note: The grade item will be generated in the D2L gradebook automatically once the first learner completes the assignment from the course. If the content is linked to an assignment, please make the assignment Ungraded. Otherwise, there will be duplicated grade items in the grade book.

Option 3: Insert Quicklink

Navigate to the D2L course you want to assign the content to and select Content.

Select Create New and create a new assignment or page.

Enter the title for the assignment or page, and click the Insert Quicklink button on the rich text editor.

Select the WeVideo Interactivity integration from the list. The name of the tool is set by your LMS administrators, so please contact them if you need help determining which tool to use. Click Set Link on the Manage Link page to launch into Interactivity.

Update the due date for the assignment

Navigate to the assignment in the LMS and click the Monitor button to launch the WeVideo in a new tab.

Click the Interactive Videos tab at the top to view the class's interactive videos.

Click the thumbnail of the interactive video and select the Edit Assignment option.

Update the assignment's due date, then click Update.

Monitor learners’ progress

For the content linked through the Add existing workflow, navigate to the content from the course and click Monitor on the Manage Link page to launch the Monitor page.

For content linked through the Insert Stuff or Insert Quicklink workflow, open the page and click the hyperlink to open the Manage Link page in a new tab.

If the content is linked to an assignment, open the assignment, select Edit Assignment, click on the hyperlink, and open it in a new tab.

Click Monitor to launch the monitor page.

On the monitor page, you can find learners’ names, scores, status, and responses to each question in this assignment. Please see this article for more information about the monitor page.

Sync grades to D2L gradebook

If the interactive video or playlist only contains auto-graded interactions (multiple choice, check-all-that-apply, fill-in-the-blank), learners' grades will be synced to the D2L gradebook automatically once they complete the assignment.

If there are manually graded free response interactions in the interactive videos or you have edited learners’ points on the Monitor page, please follow the steps below to manually sync the most up-to-date grades to D2L.

Launch the monitor page for the assignment and assign points to learners if needed.

Click the Sync Grades button on the top left of the window to send the updated grades to D2L.

FAQs

Why is there no grade item in the grade book after I linked the interactive video to the course?

The grade item from the linked interactive video will be automatically generated after the first learner in the class completes the assignment.

If you would like the grade item created simultaneously with the assignment, please contact your Customer Success Manager to discuss enabling custom logic for your district.

Instructors can also follow the steps below to manually create grade items for the linked interactive activity before learners take it.

Navigate to the linked interactive video in D2L/Brightspace and select Edit to edit the activity.

Click the Add and Manage Grade Items button to add a new grade item to the activity.

Click + Grade Item.

Enter the desired points for the activity and click OK.

Click Save and Close to save the changes to the activity.

Please note that the UI in D2L may differ from the screenshots above due to LMS settings. If the UI is different, please contact your school admins for instructions on adding grade items to assignments.

When will the learner’s grade sync to D2L?

The learner’s grade will be synced to D2L once they complete the linked interactive video. To complete the interactive video, learners must answer all required questions and reach the final timestamp.
