Commitment to accessibility
At WeVideo, we believe video editing should be accessible to everyone. We are committed to aligning with WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards to provide the most accessible and inclusive experience to customers. Our goal is to help customers gather information and conduct business through our website and mobile app successfully.
WeVideo treats accessibility as an ongoing effort. Assistive technologies like screen readers, magnifiers, voice recognition software, and captions for videos exist to support the use of our platform and product. Partnering with Allyant (formerly Accessible360) helps us conduct a comprehensive website and product audit to identify areas for continued improvement.
Current compliance status
WeVideo meets the following accessibility standards:
- WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) version 2.1 Level AA
- Section 508: Federal Standards for electronic and info technology
- FERPA/COPPA (for education)

The screen reader reads the user interface and text entered within classes and assignments and is compatible with JAWA, NVDA, or VoiceOver. It reads out the user interfaces, content in interactions, alternative text for images, and PDF files added to interactions and playlists.
Users can add alternative text to uploaded images. To do this, select the upload image box in the rich text editor:
Switch to the Upload option from the menu and select an image from the device.
Enter alternative text in the Alternative description section and click Save.
To add alternative text to equations in the equation editor, replace the text in the Label section.
To adjust the headers of the text in the interactions, click Format, Headers, then select your desired header text size.
Closed captioning provides tools for generating or importing SRT/VTT files. Upload caption files or generate captions using WeVideo’s AI-assisted Subtitle Generator after exporting projects.
For more support on captions, see these articles:
- Add captions to interactive videos built with WeVideo exports
- Add captions to interactive videos built with YouTube/Vimeo videos
- Add captions to interactive videos built with Boclips videos
- Add captions to interactive videos built with external video hosts
Visual adjustments like high-contrast modes and scalable UI text are also available.
Assistive technology limitations
- The screen reader doesn’t read sample images because they lack alternative text.
- The screen reader doesn’t read some notifications correctly.
- The screen reader doesn’t read the expandable menu correctly.
- Alternative text can’t be added to images in Playlists. The screen reader will read out the image’s file name. Change the file name to the desired alternative text before uploading it to the Playlist.
