Quick recording assignments enable learners to utilize the built-in recorder in WeVideo to record videos using their webcam or screen, and then submit the recordings to their instructors and peers. When building the quick recording assignment, instructors can add text and video descriptions, sample videos, and a cover photo to guide learners in creating their recordings. Instructors also have the option to select whether learners can record from their screen, webcam, or both, as well as the maximum recording duration.
For more information on creating and assigning quick recording assignments, please refer to the sections below.
Create a quick recording assignment
Click the arrow next to the Create button to expand the drop-down menu, select Assignment, and select the Quick Recording option.
Instructors can also create the assignment from the class where it should be assigned. Navigate to the class by going to the Classes page.
Click the Create Assignment button and select the Quick Recording option.
Provide the information for the assignment
Enter the title and the description for the assignment. Instructors can also use the formatting tool at the bottom to adjust text format, add hyperlinks, and create lists in the description.
Record video instructions (optional)
Besides entering assignment descriptions in text format, instructors can also record a video to provide learners with the instructions and descriptions for the assignment. Click the Record button to launch the video recorder.
Select to record from the Screen or the webcam, select an audio source, and click Record to start recording.
After completing the recording, click Stop to stop the video recorder.
If you are recording from the screen, switch back to the WeVideo tab and click the Stop Recording button to stop the video recorder.
Preview the recording at the top, and use the trim tool to trim the recording if needed.
Click Record Again to restart or Save to keep the recording. Please note that the previous recording will be discarded once you choose to record again.
The recording is now attached to the assignment for learners to review before they jump into the assignment. To record again, click the “X” on the recording to delete it and repeat the steps in this section to create a new recording.
Adjust the settings for the assignment
Select the recording type for learners to record from a webcam, screen, or both.
Select the maximum duration of the recording that learners can create. The length can not be longer than 10 minutes.
(Optional) Upload a cover photo for the assignment by clicking the Import Cover Photo button and selecting the image from your device.
(Optional) Attach a sample video to the assignment for learners to review before they jump into the assignment by clicking the +Add Sample Video button and attaching the video from the Uploads page, Exports page, or your device.
Click the Next button at the top right of the window to proceed to the next section, where you can assign the assignment to learners. If the button is grayed out, some required sections on this page still need to be filled in. Please ensure that all required sections are completed with the assignment information.
On the settings page, select the classes from the For section to assign this quick recording assignment to the selected classes. If the assignment is created within the Class, this option will not be available, and the assignment will automatically be assigned to the class where it was created.
Set a due date for the assignment. Learners will not be able to turn in their work after the due date.
Enable ClassFeed for the assignment (optional)
Enable the ClassFeed option if instructors wish to allow learners to view their peers’ submissions. After enabling the ClassFeed option, instructors can adjust the following settings:
- Students must submit their assignment before they can view their classmates' submissions: The ClassFeed tab will only be available to learners after they submit their work.
- Submissions are hidden from the ClassFeed until I approve them: The submitted video will only be displayed in the ClassFeed page after the instructor approves it.
Please see this article for more information about the ClassFeed in the WeVideo assignment.

After adjusting the settings for the assignment, click the Assign button on the top right to assign it to the class directly or click the Save Draft button to save the assignment as a draft for future editing. Please note that the assignment will not be editable after learners take it.
To publish the draft assignment to the class, locate it in the class, click the three-dot button, and select Assign to publish it for learners.
