When building interactive videos in Interactivity, instructors can add discussion interactions that allow learners to share their thoughts and reply to others’ comments while taking the interactive video. Please see this article for more information on setting up the discussion, monitoring it, and participating as instructors.

Before you start
Add discussion interaction in the interactive video
After adding the video clips to the interactive video editor, switch to the Interactions tab, move the playhead to the desired timestamp, and click the Create New Interaction button.
Change the interaction type to Discussion interaction and add the discussion prompt to it.
Click Save to save the interaction. If you want to customize the discussion further, please follow the steps in the next section.
Configure the discussion interaction
Instructors can adjust the time, placement, or advanced settings to customize the discussion.
Add the end time to the discussion interaction to make it durational
By default, the interaction will appear when the learner reaches the set timestamp and go away after they resume the video. If you want the discussion to appear while the interactive video continues playing for a set duration, you can set an end time for the discussion. The discussion will appear in the interactive video when learners reach the interaction start time and will close when learners reach the interaction end time.
To set the interaction end time, click the triple-dot icon of the interaction time and select the Add End Time option.
Adjust the start and end times for the discussion, then click Save to apply the changes.
Assign points to the discussion
By default, the discussion interaction is ungraded. However, you can manually adjust the points for it to make it a graded interaction. Click the triple-dot button in the discussion interaction, then use the slider to assign points to it.
Adjust the advanced settings for the discussion
Click Advanced to expand the discussion's advanced settings.
There are six advanced settings you can adjust for the discussion:
- Interaction is required: learners can not complete the interactive video without submitting at least one comment to the discussion.
- Interaction pauses video playback: If this option is on, the video will pause automatically when the discussion appears. If you unselect this option, please ensure you set an end time for the discussion to make it durational, so learners have time to submit their posts.
- Learners can rewind after reaching this interaction: If this option is off, the progress bar will be disabled when the discussion appears, preventing learners from rewinding the video.
- Learners automatically earn full points on submission of comments: If points are assigned to the discussion and this option is enabled, learners will receive full points once they submit their comments. The instructors can adjust the points on the monitor page afterward. If this option is disabled, learners' discussion grades will be pending and will wait for instructors to grade them on the monitor page.
- Hide discussion posts until learner contributes: Learners won’t see the posts from their peers until they submit their comments.
- Learners can upload videos when answering this interaction: Allow learners to upload their videos through the rich text editor as their comments.
After adjusting the discussion settings, click Save to apply the changes.
Monitor and participate in the discussion as instructors
To monitor learners’ submissions to the discussion interaction, please visit the interactive video's monitor page. You can review learners’ submissions and adjust their grades on the interactive video monitor page.
If you want to participate in the discussion, you will need to preview the interactive video from the class it is assigned to. Navigate to the class by clicking the Classes option from the sidebar and opening the class from the list.
Click the interactive video’s thumbnail and select the Preview option.
Fast-forward to the timestamp where the discussion is. In the discussion interaction, you can search with keywords, sort posts by timestamp or post order, filter by learner’s name, and download the discussion as a TXT file.
To post your comments or reply to learners, enter your comments in the text input section below, or click Reply under the learner’s comment and enter your response.
