Can you create a podcast in the WeVideo app? Learn what features are available, how to record or edit audio, and tips for producing podcast-style content on mobile.

While the WeVideo mobile app only supports exporting projects in the video format, you can create a podcast-style video with your audio recording and images or stock videos. Alternatively, you can upload audio recordings from your mobile device to the web editor and create a podcast in the WeVideo browser-based editor.

Before you start

Launch the app from your device and tap the Capture Media button at the top.

Switch to the Audio option at the bottom, then tap the record button to start recording.

While recording, the waveform will be displayed on the screen to indicate whether the app has captured your voice. Tap the stop button when you finish recording.

Tap the Play button to preview the recording, then tap Save to save it. You can also tap the Retake button to redo the recording. Please note that once you tap Retake, the original recording will be deleted and can not be retrieved.

 

There are three options to save the recording.

  • Open in editor: Open the mobile editor in the app and add the recording to the project for further editing. 
  • Upload media: Upload the recording to the cloud storage in your account. The uploaded recordings can be accessed in the browser editor when you log in to your account.
  • Save and share: Save the recording to the device or share with others through messaging apps.

Create a podcast-style video project in the mobile app

Select the Open in Editor option when saving the recording.

In the mobile editor, the project must include at least one video or image clip to export. Tap the Plus icon on the timeline to add a clip to the project.

You can select the media from your device or from the stock media library to add to the project.

Tap the imported clip and trim it to match the recording's length. You can also tap on the audio track to trim the recording if needed.

Tap the Export button in the top-right corner of the app to export the project.

Select the desired resolution and tap Export.

After exporting, you can select to:

  • Share it with others directly.
  • Save it to the device.
  • Upload it to your WeVideo cloud storage.
  • Share it on Instagram
  • Share it as an Instagram Reel

Limitations on creating a podcast in the WeVideo app

The WeVideo mobile app only supports editing and exporting video projects. Therefore, you will need to add an image or video clip to your recording to export the project. If you would like to create a podcast in audio format, please upload the recording to the cloud storage in your WeVideo account, then create a podcast project in the web editor.
