Important notes: PlayPosit recommends that instructors finish editing Bulbs or playlists before assigning them to learners. |
Critical vs. non-critical edits
The critical edits to the Bulb might create grade discrepancies or affect how learners complete the assignment, while the non-critical edits will not affect learners' grades and have minor impacts on learners’ experiences.
Critical edits
- Update the available points for the interactions
- Add interactions that are worth more than zero points
- Remove interactions that are worth more than zero points
- Change the correct answer for the interaction
- Change the interaction type
- Changing the following Bulb settings will not cause grade discrepancies, but will alter the learners’ experiences in the Bulb:
- Allow learners to rewind after an interaction appears
- Allow viewers to fast forward
- Allow learners to increase playback speed
- Allow learners to retake Bulb upon completion
- Allow learners to skip interactions
- Do not mark Bulb complete unless learner scores at least ____
Non-critical edits
- Add or edit video segments in a Bulb
- Change interaction timing
- Change interaction placement
- Change interaction’s text
- Add or remove interactions that are worth zero points
- Change the following Bulb settings:
- Allow learners to view their printable report
- Disable captions for this video
- Hide learner score upon Bulb completion
When a critical edit is made to the Bulb assigned to learners, a warning message appears at the top of the Review tab in the Bulb editor to remind instructors that their edits might cause discrepancies.
Areas of possible discrepancies
If the interactions or points have been edited, the discrepancies might occur in the following areas:
- PlayPosit gradebook
- LMS gradebook (If the Bulb is linked to an LMS)
- CSV exports from the Bulb
- Student printable report
- Bulb’s completion screen
FAQs
Learners answer all questions correctly but score below 100% in the gradebook.
PlayPosit scores interactions by calculating the ratio of points earned to points available. If the point value for an interaction is increased after learners have already begun answering it, the points learners can earn from that interaction are frozen at the previous, lower value, while the available points for the interaction are updated to the new, higher amount. This situation can result in learners who answer all questions correctly receiving a score lower than 100%.
Learners score more than 100% in the gradebook.
PlayPosit scores interactions by calculating the ratio of points earned to points available. If the points value for an interaction decreases after learners have begun answering it, the points they can earn from that interaction are frozen at the previous, higher value, while the available points for the interaction are updated to the new, lower amount. This situation can result in learners receiving a score higher than 100%.
Learners finished a Bulb that wasn’t worth any points, but their grades showed 0% in the LMS.
When learners completed the Bulb that wasn’t worth points, PlayPosit sent 100% to the LMS to indicate that they had finished it. If the Bulb was modified to 0 points after learners started it, they will not receive points for completing the Bulb. However, since they began the Bulb when points were available, their grades are calculated as 0/original available points in the Bulb, which then transfers to 0% and syncs to the LMS.
