What are question banks?
A question bank consists of multiple questions, and learners are randomly assigned one of these questions when they reach the designated timestamp. Question banks can be helpful if instructors want to allow learners to retake the Bulb, but want them to see different questions when they do so, so they can not complete it by memorizing the answers from previous attempts.
The question banks also reduce the likelihood of cheating because questions are randomly assigned to learners from the question bank, which makes it more difficult for them to share their answers with others.
Create question banks in PlayPosit
Select Create New Bulb from the My Bulbs page.
Select a video host and add videos to the Bulb.
Switch to the Interactions tab, move the play head to the desired timestamp, then click Create New Interaction to create the first interaction for the question bank. Please note that only Multiple Choice or Check All That Apply interaction type can be added to the question bank.
Enter the content for the interaction and click Save to save it.
Click the Add Interaction to Group button and repeat the previous step to add another interaction. Please ensure that the interaction is the same type as the first interaction in the group.
After having at least two interactions in the group, click the Convert to question bank button at the top right of the interaction group to convert these questions into a question bank.
Click the Add interaction to question bank button on the top right of the question bank to add more interactions to this question bank if needed.
If instructors need to convert the question bank back to the interaction group, click the triple dots button in the top right corner and select the Convert to Interaction Group option.
Move the play head to a different timestamp and repeat the steps in this section to create more question banks in the Bulb if needed.
Learner’s experience
When learners reach the question bank, they will not be notified that this is a random question picked from the question bank. They will answer it as a regular question, submit their answer, and move forward in the Bulb.
Monitor question banks
Click the thumbnail and select Monitor, then select the class to which the Bulb is assigned to access the monitor page. Please see this article for more information about monitoring Bulb in PlayPosit.
Question banks will appear in the gradebook with a merged header indicating that these questions belong to a question bank. The question in the question bank that have been shown to the learner will display the learner's response, while the questions that have not been shown will be marked as “-”.
FAQs
What’s the difference between interaction groups and question banks?
Interaction groups: Multiple interactions are added to the same group and placed at the same timestamp in the Bulb. When learners reach the timestamp, interactions are displayed to them one by one in the order set by the instructor. Learners must answer all the questions in the group to complete the interaction groups and move forward. All types of interactions can be added to the interaction groups, and they do not need to be the same type of interaction to be in the same group.
Question banks: Multiple questions are added to the bank, but only one is assigned to learners on each attempt. Learners must answer the question assigned to them to complete the question bank and move forward. Only multiple choice and check all that apply questions can be added to the question bank, and there can only be one question type for each bank.
How will question banks be graded?
All questions in the question bank are assigned with the same points value, and learners will receive full credit from the question bank when they answer the assigned question correctly. Questions that are not assigned to the learner will not be counted or affect the final grade for the Bulb.
