What is broadcast in PlayPosit?
The Broadcast functionality in PlayPosit allows instructors and learners to take Bulbs and answer questions in the videos in real time. Instructors have full control of the pace when broadcasting, which means they can fast-forward, stop, or rewind the video if needed. Instructors can also review learners’ responses to questions in real time. Please see more information about broadcasting in PlayPosit in this article.
When broadcasting, the video is playing on the instructor’s devices, and learners will only see questions on their devices. Instructors can project their screens in the classroom or use the screen share feature in the online classroom to watch the video simultaneously with learners.
Assign Bulbs for broadcast in the LMS
Any Bulbs in the instructor’s account can be used for broadcast. Please see this article for more information about creating Bulb in PlayPosit.
Assign the Bulb to the class in the LMS and adjust the learner experience to Live Broadcast. Please see the articles in this list for more information about assigning Bulbs to the LMS.
When ready to broadcast, open the assignment or page where the broadcast Bulb is assigned and click Broadcast to launch it.
Click List Learners to see the list of learners who have joined the broadcast.
When all the learners have joined the broadcast, click Start to start broadcasting.
When the video is playing, the instructor can use the progress bar to fast-forward, rewind, or pause it if needed. Learners will watch the video at the same pace as the instructor. Please see the next section for more information about the learners’ experiences.
When the question appears, it will also be displayed on the learners’ devices. Instructors can use the following options to monitor learners’ real time responses.
- Show Responses: This option shows the answers submitted by learners and the number of responses submitted. Instructors can toggle on and off to adjust whether to show the learners’ names.
- Show Analytics: This option shows the analytic diagram generated by learners’ responses to the question.
- Refresh: Update the data when monitoring.
Once all learners have answered the questions, instructors can continue playing the video to proceed. Please note that learners will not be able to submit their answers to past questions once the video starts playing.
If an interaction group has multiple questions, instructors must answer the question and click Next to move to the next question for learners.
Since the instructor controls the playback, please make sure to watch the video to the end and see the following completion screen to mark all users in the broadcast as completed. Once you see this screen, click Finish and Exit to complete the broadcast and close the tab to return to the LMS. If grading is enabled for the assignment in the LMS, learners’ grades will be synced to the grade book once the Bulb is completed.
When the broadcast is completed, a popup window will appear. Instructors can convert the Broadcast Bulb into a regular Bulb so that learners who miss the Broadcast can complete it asynchronously. Enter the start and end date for the Bulb and click OK to convert it.
You can also click the Reassign Bulb button on the sidebar to open the window.
If the Bulb is reassigned to the class, it will become a regular self pace Bulb, and the broadcast option will be removed from the manage link page. Learners who didn’t join the broadcast can take it as a regular asynchronous assignment. Those who completed the Bulb during the broadcast session can rewatch it but cannot submit new answers to the questions.
Learner experience in broadcast
Open the assignment or page where the broadcast Bulb is assigned. Learners will see the broadcast's title and the indication that the instructor is online. Please keep this window open and wait for the instructor to start the broadcast.
Once the broadcast starts, please watch the video on the screen the instructor shares and be prepared to answer questions.
Learners will answer the question on their own devices when the question shows up.
The completion screen shows learners' scores after the broadcast. To complete the broadcast, click Finish and Exit.
Monitor the broadcast Bulb
While the instructors can monitor learners’ submissions during the broadcast, they can also review their progress on the monitor page afterward.
Open the assignment or page where the Bulb is assigned and click Monitor to launch the monitor page for the Bulb.
On the monitor page, you can find learners’ names, statuses, and their answer to each question.
Click on the learner’s submission to view the details or edit the points for this submission.
If learners’ grades have been updated, please click Sync Grades at the top to send the most updated grades to the LMS.
