What is broadcast in PlayPosit?
The Broadcast functionality in PlayPosit allows instructors and learners to take Bulbs and answer questions in the videos in real time. Instructors have full control of the pace when broadcasting, which means they can fast-forward, stop, or rewind the video if needed. Instructors can also review learners’ responses to questions in real time. Please see more information about broadcasting in PlayPosit in this article.
When broadcasting, the video is playing on the instructor’s devices, and learners will only see questions on their devices. Instructors can project their screens in the classroom or use the screen share feature in the online classroom to watch the video simultaneously with learners.
Assign Bulbs for broadcast
Any Bulbs in the instructor’s account can be used for broadcast. Please see this article for more information about creating Bulb in PlayPosit.
When the instructor is ready to start broadcasting, click the Bulb’s thumbnail and select Broadcast.
Select one of the broadcast preferences from the dropdown menu.
- Broadcast to students: Users need to log in to their student accounts to access the broadcast.
- Broadcast to professional learning: Users need to log in to their teacher accounts to access the broadcast.
- Broadcast to people outside the organization: Users do not need accounts to access the broadcast but have to enter their first and last names before starting the assignment.
- Broadcast to anonymous participants: Users do not need accounts and do not need to enter their names to start the broadcast. All participants will be stored as anonymous users.
Select the class you want to use and click Broadcast to start broadcasting.
The broadcast Bulb will open in a new window. Copy and share the link with your learners, or click the Show QR Code option to show the QR code for learners to scan and join.
Click List Learners to see the list of learners who have joined the broadcast.
When all the students have joined the broadcast, click Start to start broadcasting.
When the video is playing, the instructor can use the progress bar to fast-forward, rewind, or pause it if needed. Learners will watch the video at the same pace as the instructor. Please see the next section for more information about the learners’ experiences.
When the question appears, it will also be displayed on the learners’ devices. Instructors can use the following options to monitor learners’ real-time responses.
- Show Responses: This option shows the answers submitted by learners and the number of responses submitted. Instructors can toggle on and off to adjust whether to show the learners’ names.
- Show Analytics: This option shows the analytic diagram generated by learners’ responses to the question.
- Refresh: Update the data when monitoring.
Once all learners have answered the questions, instructors can continue playing the video to proceed. Please note that students will not be able to submit their answers to past questions once the video starts playing.
If an interaction group has multiple questions, instructors must answer the question and click Next to move to the next question for learners.
Since the instructor controls the playback, please make sure to watch the video to the end and see the following completion screen to mark all users in the broadcast as completed. Once you see this screen, click Finish and Exit to complete the broadcast.
When the broadcast is completed, a popup window will appear. Instructors can convert the Broadcast Bulb into a regular Bulb so that students who miss the Broadcast can complete it asynchronously. Enter the start and end date for the Bulb and click OK to convert it.
You can also click the Reassign Bulb button on the sidebar to open the window.
Learner experience in broadcast
After opening the link or joining through the QR code, learners will see the broadcast's title and the indication that the instructor is online. Please keep this window open and wait for the instructor to start the broadcast.
Once the broadcast starts, please watch the video on the screen shared by the instructor and be prepared to answer questions.
Students will answer the question on their own devices when the question shows up.
After the broadcast, students can see their scores from the completion screen. Click Finish and Exit to complete the broadcast.
Monitor the broadcast Bulb
While the instructors can monitor learners’ submissions during the broadcast, they can also review their progress on the monitor page afterward.
