Learn how to enable WebGL in WeVideo's video editor, including key steps, helpful tips, and best practices for troubleshooting.
To use WeVideo, your device must have WebGL enabled, which is typically an on/off toggle in your internet browser settings. Follow the instructions below to check if your browser currently has hardware acceleration enabled.

Enable WebGL for Chrome
Navigate to chrome://settings/system and check that Use graphics acceleration when available is enabled.
If hardware acceleration is enabled but WebGL isn’t working, go to chrome://gpu and find the Graphics Feature Status section.
If the status of WebGL does not show Hardware accelerated, scroll down to the Problems Detected list to determine why hardware acceleration is unavailable and what to try next.
Enable WebGL for Safari
WebGL is enabled by default for Safari versions 15.1+ (released December 2021), and the only way to enable/disable it is through the machine’s terminal.
If you are experiencing WebGL issues on Safari, it is unlikely to be related to the browser settings. See the table at the end of this article for other possible causes.
Enable WebGL for Microsoft Edge
Navigate to edge://settings/system and click Graphics acceleration.
Check that User hardware acceleration when available is enabled.
Enable WebGL for Firefox
Go to about:config and search for webgl.disabled in the search bar. Ensure its value is false.
If the value for webgl.disabled is false but WebGL isn’t working, go to about:support. Find the Graphics table’s Driver Renderer section and look for an error message explaining what to try next.
Other Common Causes for WebGL Problems
If you’ve tried the steps above and WebGL is still not working, refer to the table below for other troubleshooting ideas.
| Cause(s) | Solution |
| Outdated internet browser | Download the most up-to-date version of your internet browser. |
|
Outdated graphics drivers (especially older than 2010)
Blacklisted graphics drivers |
Follow manufacturer instructions for updating your graphics drivers and/or your operating system. |
| Browser extension conflicts | Some browser extensions may silently disable WebGL. Access WeVideo in an incognito window that has all extensions disabled; if WeVideo works, then it's a browser extension problem. Doublecheck each extension to find which is disabling WebGL. |
