Before you start
- Permission to access the device’s camera is required for the built-in or external webcam to capture a recording.
- Permission to access the microphone is required so the built-in or external microphone can record voiceover narration when capturing a screen or webcam recording.
Log in to WeVideo
Download the extension and complete the installation process, then log in to WeVideo.
If the user is already logged in on another tab, continue with the same login. Otherwise, log in with SSO options or email. For new users, proceed to the Sign up option and follow the prompts to create a new account.
Record screen, webcam, or both
Grant access to the camera and microphone by selecting Allow to let the WeVideo recorder record the screen or webcam from the device.
Find the extension and pin it to the browser.
Select the option to record with screen, webcam, or both:
- Dual: Record videos from the webcam and screen simultaneously. After recording, these videos are saved as two videos.
- Screen: Record a video from the selected tab, window, or screen.
- Webcam: Record yourself using the webcam on your device.
Click Record to start. If users record from a Chrome tab, enable the Also share tab audio option to record from the selected tab.
Customize background and scripts
Remove background by selecting the Background button and selecting the background effect.
Click Script on the extension tool to enter the script in the input section. Text is automatically saved, allowing the user to close this tab and return at any time.
Click generate Script to use WeVideo’s AI script generator.
On the script generator window, enter the prompt and click Generate. After the script is generated, you can edit and personalize the text as needed.
Adjust recording options and preview the webcam. Once all set, click Record in the top corner to start recording. The script is placed in a separate window that users can drag around the screen.
Track and highlight features
Track and highlight the cursor location on the screen while recording.
Enable cursor highlights by selecting the cursor with the highlight rings. This lets users emphasize mouse clicks.
Disable this feature by selecting the cursor without highlight rings.
Use built-in drawing tools to highlight sections on the screen. Select the pencil icon and draw directly on the current view. Modify the color, line size, and transparency using these settings. Change the color or line size by selecting the option that best fits. Adjust transparency by dragging the slider to the left or right to decrease or increase visibility.
Pause, stop, and save recordings
Select the Pause icon to pause recording, then click the Play button at any time to resume recording. To stop and finish the recording, click the Stop (square) icon or Stop sharing to end the recording.
After finishing the recording, edit by opening it in the WeVideo app. Select the Open in WeVideo app option.
If there’s no need to edit the recording, send it as a media file to WeVideo, Google Drive, or OneDrive.
Adjust privacy settings and copy the share link to provide to the audience.
Users can also download the recording to their computer as a media file by selecting the Download button beneath the recording.
Find recordings in the My recordings tab. Expand the extension tool, click the account icon, and select My recordings.
On the My Recordings page, users can use the three-dot button to launch the action menu. Open, Download, Rename, or Delete the recording.
Limitations of the WeVideo screen and webcam recording
- AI-generated scripts are currently in Beta status and are not available to student users.
- The background removal option is not available on the Generate script page. To use the background removal tool with the script, first enable the background removal tool, then click the Script button on the extension tool to add scripts.
